Conflict is a serious disagreement or clash. It can come from external sources (conflict with another person) or internal sources (experiencing conflicting emotions). Arguments, fights and disagreements with others can take a huge emotional toll. Conflict resolution skills are critical to diffusing clashes with others and protecting yourself from stress. When a dispute arises you can take steps to find a peaceful solution for everyone involved before it becomes overwhelming (ie compromising, collaborating, or accommodating). Avoid escalating arguments by making threats or being competitive. Active listening and communication, not interrupting, and remaining calm are all good strategies for diffusing conflict. Avoiding conflict whenever possible is a great way to care for yourself and conserve energy.
